🖍️ Highlighted = the heart of it. Build your lesson from these — they're worth 60% on their own. Say them in your words to go past 80!

Your eyes are amazing, but sometimes they trick you. Philosophers noticed long ago that things are not always what they seem, so it is smart to check twice before believing your eyes.

The way something looks is called its appearance. What it truly is underneath is called its reality. Sometimes the appearance and the reality do not match.

A great example is an optical illusion. Two lines can look like different lengths, but when you measure them with a ruler, they turn out to be exactly the same.

Here is another one: a straw in a glass of water looks bent or broken, but when you pull it out, it is perfectly straight. The water only made it appear bent.

Because of tricks like these, careful thinkers do not trust just one quick look. They test things, measure them, or look from another angle to find out what is really true.

Checking twice is a superpower for your brain. When you ask, is this how it really is, or just how it looks, you are thinking like a wise philosopher.
